IMRIS developed a surgical robotics platform that allowed a neurosurgeon to operate in the bore of an MRI in real time, providing them with a level of performance not achievable with existing surgical techniques. The platform was capable of stereotactic procedures as well a microsurgery.
The operator console allowed a surgeon to control the SYMBIS robot from outside the shield of an MRI equiped operating theatre. The console could be used for surgeries as well as surgeon training. The conole was equiped with stereoscopic displays and two 6DOF haptic feedback handcontrollers.
